Dad’s Losing It: Walk the Line

While the gym still seems as though it is light years away from my front door (it has now been about 10 days since my last workout), I have been outside each evening with my gal, braving the unseasonably cold weather, as she rides her new big kid bike. We just bought her a Trek Mystic 16” bicycle with training wheels and she has been taking a daily ride around the block in our small residential neighborhood. The upside for her and I is that we are outside, breathing in the fresh, healthy air and getting some exercise (without it seeming like we are exercising, which is really the best possible situation for me!)

Last night, before my stroll, I made a fairly healthy and well-balanced meal of Risotto with crumbled (out of it’s casing) and browned pork sausage, green bell peppers, onions, peas and freshly grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese. It is one of my three favorite things to make as it is filling, delicious and yields another full meal of leftovers (and seems to always get better overnight as the flavors of bell pepper, onion and cheese get cozy with the rice and sausage). In fact, my whole family has it again for lunch today.

I have been eating solid meals and resisting the usual midday, workplace snacks but I have been unable to say no to that pack of peanut chews on the way out of the gas station or the little chocolate bunny staring at me in the house – a distraught leftover from the Easter festivities. As a result of these indulgences, I am breaking out with pimples like a 13 year old boy. It is pretty awkward and aggravating, but I only have myself to blame.

Tonight, we are having dinner at a local supermarket. Not our favorite place to dine, in fact I am pretty sure we have never eaten inside such an establishment, but Winnie the Pooh is in town and, well, we must share some of our honey with him. The event is free, save for the cost of the food in the market’s café, which is nice. While I am not sure how good or healthy the food options will be tonight, it should be a hoot to dine with the legendary character from hundred acre wood. How bad for you is a full pot of honey anyway?

Have a great and healthy week.

Until Saturday!
