How often do you add chipboard to your layouts?
I must admit; I don’t use chipboard nearly as often as I do stickers, stamps, die cuts or other embellishments; however, plain chipboard is relatively inexpensive, so if you are looking for ways to keep scrapbooking costs down, then you might consider purchasing some to spice up your page designs.
If you have a bigger budget, you could buy chipboard accents which come decorated, but cost significantly more than the plain versions. Personally, I think plain chipboard is the way to go, not only because it is more cost-efficient, but also you can tailor the cardboard to fit specific designs.
Don’t be afraid to exercise creativity when embellishing chipboard. I like to stamp chipboard, while my mother enjoys decoupaging hers. There are many ways you can customize chipboard to make it work for your particular layout.
One simple technique is to add flocking powder. I am an avid flocker and am constantly looking for new ways I can incorporate flocking powder into my scrapbook. Simply cover the chipboard with glue and carefully sprinkle some of the flocking powder on it. Depending on the color of the powder you may have to add a few layers to get the desired shade. Fortunately, flocking powder comes in a variety of colors, so it’s easy to customize the chipboard.
Another cheap and easy way to embellish chipboard is to paint it. Affordable acrylic paint is a cinch to find. What’s more, the variety of colors is virtually limitless. You can also experiment with different finishes, such crackle finish and metallic finish, if you really want to create an eye-popping chipboard accent. If you are feeling especially creative, you can stamp over the paint or add beads or glitter for extra shine and sparkle.
