DeGeneres’ Doggie Dilemma

If you don’t want to see Ellen DeGeneres in the midst of a massive emotional meltdown then you’ll want to steer clear of her talk show today.

Hollywood is buzzing about DeGeneres being in the doghouse with a local animal adoption agency. Reports say the talk show host broke down sobbing yesterday while she was taping an episode that is slated to air today.

The actress and her partner, Portia de Rossi, reportedly took home a Brussels Griffon mix named Iggy late last month, but it appears the energetic pup was a bit too much for the couple to handle given that they are already parents to a couple of mellow cats. So, as the TV host shares on today’s show, she gave the dog to her hairdresser.

Sounds innocent, right? Well, not according to Mutts and Moms, the dog rescue agency where DeGeneres got the pooch. According to the agency, the actress turned TV talk show host violated an agreement by not informing them of the switch-off.

The situation was revealed when the agency made a routine follow up call to DeGeneres to inquire about Iggy, and was told the pup had a new owner. The actress says that’s when Mutts and Moms dispatched a rep to her hairdresser’s home and removed Iggy.

If you tune into to DeGeneres’ show today you’ll hear about the entire, apparently, ugly scenario. The talk show host reportedly admits her mistake on air saying she did not thoroughly read the adoption documents.

“I guess I signed a piece of paper that says if I can’t keep Iggy, it goes back to the rescue organization, which is not someone’s home, which is not a family,” DeGeneres says on her show.

She added that she spent $3,000 to get Izzy neutered and trained to live with cats, but eventually made the decision to gift the pup to her hairdresser’s family.

“I thought I did a good thing. I tried to find a loving home for the dog because I couldn’t keep it,” DeGeneres reportedly said on air.

Things got really intense after that statement. According to show transcripts, DeGeneres then broke down in tears as she explained how her hairdresser’s young daughters had bonded with the dog and were heartbroken when he was taken away.

“Because I did it wrong, those people went and took that dog out of their home, and took it away from those kids,” said DeGeneres, sobbing.

“I feel totally responsible for it and I’m so sorry. I’m begging them to give that dog back to that family,” she said. “It’s not their fault. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have given the dog away. Just please give the dog back to those little girls.”

What do you make of the situation? Do you think the dog agency was wrong to adhere to the written contract?

Personally, I have a feeling that with all the media attention the incident is getting the story will have a happy ending.
