Describe Your Dream Home

I’d love to hear from anyone who would like to describe his or her dream home. Would it have many bedrooms, bathrooms, and other private spaces, or would it be large, open, and airy? Would it be traditional or contemporary or something in between?

Would you like to live in the city, just outside it, in the suburbs, or miles away from everything and everyone? How would your home be furnished? Clean lines, pure elegance, or casual comfort? Would you add a home theater, or would you be happier with a spa, an indoor pool, or a pool table? Maybe you’d have your own bar, or a sports bar, or an exercise room that would remind your friends of Bally’s.

I used to have a very clear vision of my dream home. Of course, that was before I had kids. I pictured a city loft with high ceilings and a view to die for. My artwork, the stuff I made, would be my artwork for my home (at least the stuff that wasn’t displayed in a gallery somewhere). I’d have one corner filled with floor to ceiling windows where I’d sit to write my novel. Everything would be based on comfort and creative energy.

Now that I have children, I think about things that would make them happy and comfortable, like a pool, a trampoline, a nice garden, and a big yard with plenty of room to run and play. Maybe a little stable and some horses, someday. Heck, with all that they wouldn’t much care what the house looked like or what was inside, so I guess I’d still get to choose when it comes to style.

While I never dreamed that this city girl would find happiness in the country, I have changed my idea of what constitutes a dream home from loft to big old farmhouse. That one with the blue slate roof and wrap around porch that I pass now and then, has it’s very own, very different, view to die for.
