Developing an Eye Catching Resume

The important thing to remember when creating your resume is that yours will be competing with many, many others. You need to do whatever you can to make sure that yours stands out and gets noticed. Getting your resume noticed is the first step towards being called for the interview that you want.

Spending extra time to make sure your resume is just right is definitely worth it. Here are some things to keep in mind when you are writing your resume:

Lots of White Space
Don’t feel like you have to fill in every bit of space on your resume. When a hiring manager sees a crowded resume, they usually don’t read it. Make sure that there are enough spaces, that the font is readable and that your resume is not jammed full of words.

No Typos
Go over your resume once, twice, three times. The worst thing you can have on your resume is errors like typos, incorrect spelling or poor grammar. It makes you look bad before they even have a chance to consider your skills and abilities.

Highlight Your Skills
Make sure that you resume talks about the things that you can do well. Think about work related skills, but also what else can you do? Are you reliable? Good at multitasking? Think along those lines as you are deciding what to put in your resume.

Take your Time
A well crafted resume will take some time. It would not be unusual for you to spend several hours creating your resume and then more time later revising it. Don’t expect this to be a project that you finish during the evening news.

Get a Second Opinion
Have several people read your resume and provide feedback. They can help you pick out mistakes you might not have noticed and they can also give you a more objective opinion on how your resume looks.
