Diary of a Home Business Owner

Remember that large bulk mailing I was so glad to deliver to the post office last week? Guess what? It wasn’t mailed!

To make a long story short, we got a phone call from the post office on Tuesday telling us that the mailing could not be sent out due to a “technicality”. We were able to resolve the problem – eventually – but the solution involved two Sharpie pens and a few hours at my kitchen table!

Needless to say, that threw a bit of a monkey wrench into my plans for the week. And, in true home business fashion, it looks like the fun is just beginning. We have an Open House planned at the school for this coming Tuesday for prospective new families. It is our biggest recruiting event of the year, and like many Catholic schools, successful recruiting is crucial for remaining viable. And wouldn’t you know, the long range weather forecast has a significant snowstorm heading our way for Monday and Tuesday. Fortunately, I’ve already spoken with the school principal and we have Plan B ready to go. Hopefully, it won’t be needed. Honestly, I’m a little conflicted over this; I absolutely love the snow – especially the big storms that shut things down for days at a time. We usually get one of those each year, so this may be the one.

As for work, we have one more large mailing to go – it’s scheduled to go out next Friday, but with the threat of snow, I imagine that date may change. In any event, we have a group of volunteers working on getting it ready to go.

It’s getting close to the end of the month which means that I am frantically trying to tie up the loose ends that need tying before we enter February. Compared to other months, I’m in pretty good shape. I guess all of my writing and tips about avoiding procrastination has helped me as well!
