Diary of a Work-at-Home Mom Part 10

This evening is the last evening of our vacation. We will be enjoying breakfast with my dad, my sister, and her fiancee before we hit the road for a five hour drive home tomorrow. As I think about returning home after this vacation, I am unsure about how I will feel once I am back home. We have enjoyed our time here, but it is quite possible that I will welcome a return to our usual schedule.

When we return home, I will be returning to my normal work schedule. There is plenty of work waiting for me when I return and I will have to figure out a plan for completing all of it while settling the whole family back into our routines and doing the household chores that go along with returning from a vacation. Loads and loads of laundry, restocking the fridge and pantry, picking up the mail, and other household tasks will be competing for my attention along with work, more work, and of course the multitude of duties of motherhood.

Despite the seemingly overwhelming collection of things that I must attend to when I return from vacation, I have a feeling that when the dust settles, and perhaps even before all of the dust has completely settled, I will be grateful to be home. Home to our comfortable house where everything that we are accustomed to is right where we left it. Home to our schedule with a few regular events that punctuate the course of each day with plenty of room for spontaneity in between. Home to, well, our usual way of living.

What does all of this have to do with home-based business? Before I went on vacation, all I could think about was going on vacation. Now that vacation is almost over, I am grateful that I was able to get a little work done while I was here but I am eager to return home to my normal work schedule. Going on vacation always carries with it the potential for “aha” moments and bits of insight. My insight that I have gained from this trip is that I truly do enjoy my work. What vacation insights have you had about your home-based business?
