Did You Ever Have One of Those Days?

Sometimes you know it’s just going to be like in the Elvis song Did you ever have one of those days – days where every thing goes wrong.

The day started with my breakfast of banana, boysenberries and blueberries Mick and I had picked the day before at the berry farm and muesli all over the floor. What happened? I was working and wasn’t quite watching what I was doing, missed the desk and hey presto, breakfast was on the floor. Get another bowl and start again. Take two.

Our little dog discovered she likes muesli and berries. She always liked banana. Just as well the floors were all being washed later that morning anyway.

Meanwhile Mick was having his own frustrations. He’d taken the car in early for service and expected to not be long but it took longer than normal. Then he saw just how inconsiderate and argumentative people could be at the gas station when the woman before him held everyone up with her antics and her refusal to pay for gas she’d put in from one pump before moving on to the next one. Who knows why!

By the time Mick arrived to buy chicken necks for the dogs, they’d run out and he encountered one person taking up two car spaces with their car.

Back home again it continued to be one of those days, one mishap after another, but we just kept having a laugh about it.

Mick scored the pork and I prepared it for Mick to barbecue as we were having friends come for our Christmas dinner together. It sounded fine in theory- all organized until an hour before friends were due to arrive, Mick discovered the gas bottle had run out. By this time the shop was closed. We had no idea how long the barbecue had been off. Terrific!

A quick change of plans. The pork was whisked into the oven and the air-conditioner turned down cooler to cope. At that point, Mick discovered the air conditioner filter needed cleaning. Out to the shed he went, to get a ladder and clean it. And so it went on. Little mishaps and dramas that continued till the time our friends arrived. We began to wonder what the evening had in store.

We exchanged gifts, shared a Christmas drink, a well cooked roast pork and vegetables, fresh berry fruit salad dessert and other Christmas goodies, including Christmas cake and chocolate and had a lovely evening and a lot of laughs together.

Sometimes as a couple, it’s a matter of laughing through the mishaps life presents and not letting them get to you and stress you out. Come to think of it that sounds a pretty good idea not just at Christmas but for any day of marriage.
