Did You Miss Conference?

Yesterday, we talked about some great steps towards growing from General Conference. However, what if you were unable to attend all four (or five, if you are a priesthood holder) sessions? This is one of those things that I love about the world we live in today – technology. In fact, some of this technology enabled me to keep my three kids (all under the age of six) from terrorizing everyone else during Conference this weekend. There are so many ways that we can listen to Conference today.

Audio archives of General Conference are already available on MP3. For more about how you can maximize those, see the entry made a few months ago, General Conference Anytime, Anywhere. The short summary: you can listen on your computer, in your home, on your MP3 player, or in your car.

Do you have the BYU channel? Check out the schedule for rebroadcasts. As with any television program, you can record these on your VCR or DVD burner and keep a permenant copy.

Are you more visual but don’t have satellite? I learned only this weekend that you can watch – and download – the Conference broadcast on video. Go to the BYU web page for Conference and click on ‘watch rebroadcasts online’. This will take you to into a session of Conference (at least, it did me). Below the schedule, there is a link for each session of Conference. If you click on it with your mouse, voila, you can watch that session at your convenience. I don’t know how long they will be online, however, so make the most of the opportunity!

The text of the Conference talks should be available by Thursday of this week (that’s the 5th) for those of us who prefer to read them.

Of course, you can take the more traditional and patient routes. The Ensign and Liahona will be out in May (albeit a little later than you regularly receive them, I’ve noticed) with all of the talks. According to the church website, audio CDs and cassettes and English-speaking DVDs will be available at your LDS bookstore or through the distribution center within eight weeks (please note that the distribution center doesn’t charge shipping, making it my favorite place to shop!).

In short, there are a variety of means to ensure that you can study the words of the prophet and apostles. However, only you can ensure that you take something from them!
