Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 9

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson nine in the manuals. You can use the time around the table to reinforce the lessons that your children learned at church during the week. Keep the discussions upbeat and positive. It is a great time to answer any questions that your children may have had during church.

If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned to be grateful for water. The lesson explained that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ provided water for us on the earth. The children discussed the many things that water is used for. The children learned the story of Moses providing water for the Israelites. They also learned about baptism in the water. You may want to elaborate on why you are grateful for water at dinner.

If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about the Priesthood blessings and ordinances. The children learned about the different ordinances that can be completed with the Priesthood. They also discussed blessing to help the sick recover and father’s blessings. Each child was supposed to bring home a note asking you to share a time when you received a Priesthood blessing. You may want to share an experience as well as your testimony about the importance of the Priesthood.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Jesus calling his Apostles. The children discussed the how the Apostles reacted to the call. The children also discussed the difference between being a disciple (a follower of Christ) and an Apostle (a special witness of Christ). They also discussed the Apostles who are on earth today. The assigned reading for the week is Matthew 4:18-22.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about the succession in the Presidency. The children discussed what happened after Joseph Smith was martyred and how the church leaders reacted. They also discussed how Brigham Young was called. They then discussed how the new President of the Church is chosen today.

All members over the fourteen and older learned about being true Disciples of Christ. This lesson was a continuation of studying the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6 and & 7). The main points were doing the right things for the right reasons, praying, treating others kindly, and serving God and doing his will. Next week’s reading assignment is Matthew 11:28-30; 12:1-13; Luke 7:36-50 and 13:10-17.

The Young Women learned about being peacemakers in the home. The Young Men learned about repentance and the Atonement of Christ. The Priesthood and Relief Society lessons were determined by the individual presidencies. Next week’s lesson is “Prayer, the Passport to Spiritual Power.”
