Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 11

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson eleven in the manuals. Remember to keep the discussions upbeat and positive. This is an opportunity to reinforce the lessons learned at church each week. You may need to adjust if your ward is on a different schedule.

If you have a child in nursery or Sunbeams he learned about fish. The children learned about Christ creating fish and other water animals. They also learned the story of Jonah and how he was swallowed by a whale. They also learned about Simon Peter and when his nets were overflowing. They discussed the blessings of fish. You may want to choose one of the scripture stories to review in depth.

If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about baptism. The children learned that they can be baptized when they turn eight. They learned why it is important to be baptized. They learned the steps they need to take to prepare for baptism. You may want to review those steps with them.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about prayer. The children focused on Matthew 6:5-13 and 7:7-11 to learn what Christ taught about prayer. They also discussed when to pray and what to pray for. The assigned reading for the week is Matthew 6:5-8.

If you have a child between the ages of twelve and thirteen she learned about Brigham Young being the prophet of God. The class discussed the pioneers coming West. They also learned that Brigham Young encouraged education and cultural arts as well. You may want to share any stories you know of Brigham Young.

For all members over the age fourteen the lesson was on the parable of the sower. The lesson discussed the different places that seeds were sown and what each place teaches us about our testimonies. It also discussed why Christ taught in parables and what we can learn from them. Next week’s reading is John 5-6; Mark 6:30-44; and Matthew 14:22-33.

The Young Women learned about appreciating the bishop. The young men learned about Satan and his temptations. The Priesthood and Relief Society lessons were on lesson six, “Discovering the Scriptures for Ourselves,” in the Spencer W Kimball manual. Next week’s lesson is based on talks from the last General Conference. You can check with your local leaders to learn which specific talks will be covered.
