Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 14

This week’s dinner discussion is based on lesson fourteen for those in Senior Primary and older. The lessons in Nursery and Junior Primary are based lesson thirteen. If you have already had Stake Conference you may need to adjust your schedule accordingly. It is important to keep the discussions upbeat and positive. You do want to reinforce the lessons taught on Sunday, and help your children see the goodness of the gospel.

If you have a child in Nursery he learned to be grateful for birds and insects. The children learned about how the ravens fed the prophet Elijah. The children also learned the story of the seagulls eating the crickets and helping the pioneers in Utah. They also learned about bees and other insects. This week you may want to talk about the blessings of birds and insects. You can show them ants on the sidewalk or take time to notice the birds at the park.

If you have a child between ages four and seven she learned about the Baptismal Covenant. The children learned what a covenant is. They also discussed the promises that they make when they are baptized (they will keep the commandments) and what Heavenly Father promises (forgiveness when your repent, the Gift of the Holy Ghost and eternal life.) You may want to go over these promises and talk about how to keep them.

If you have a child between ages eight and eleven he learned about Jesus and the Sabbath day. The lesson discussed how the Jewish leaders were angry with Jesus because he healed on the Sabbath. The lesson points out that some activities are good to do on the Sabbath while others should be avoided. It is important to set aside the Sabbath as a time to remember Christ and the gospel. The assigned reading for this week is John 2:5-16.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about preparing for a mission. The class discussed the importance of having a desire to serve a mission. They learned that they would need patience to prepare for their mission. They learned that they would need to work hard on their missions. The lesson also pointed out that we are all missionaries.

All member fourteen and over learned about the importance of becoming like little children. The lesson also taught the parable of the unmerciful servant, and the importance of forgiveness. The lesson also covered the parable of the Good Samaritan. The reading for next week is John 7-8.

The young women learned about the blessings of the temple. The young men learned about obedience to God. The Priesthood and Relief Society lesson was on “Selfless Service” lesson eight in the Spencer W. Kimball manual. Next week’s lesson is based on talks from the last session of General Conference, check with your leaders to find out which talks.
