Dinner Discussions Week 38

This week the dinner discussions are based on lesson 38 from the various manuals. Remember to keep the discussions positive and upbeat. You want to stress personal growth in a positive manner. You should avoid turning this in to a lecture session.

If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about being reverent. They talked about how being reverent is being quiet and respectful. They also learned that they should be reverent while at church, and while praying at home. They talked about how reverence is important in holy places, when they heard the story of Moses and the burning bush. You should practice being reverent during the week.

If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about the importance of remembering Jesus Christ during the Sacrament. The children learned the story of the Last Supper, and the significance of the Sacrament. The children reviewed the Sacramental prayers, and discussed ways to remember Christ during the Sacrament. You may want to discuss ways to remember Christ during Sacrament during dinner.

If you have a child between the ages eight and eleven he learned about Esther saving her people. The children discussed the importance of putting the Lord first. They also discussed the proper way to fast, and were encouraged to fast by their teacher. You may want to share an experience that you have had with fasting. The assigned reading is Esther 4.

If you have a child that is twelve or thirteen she learned about the importance of remaining morally clean. The class members discussed the law of chastity and the importance of keeping it. They discussed the story of Joseph when he fled from Potiphar’s wife. They then discussed the different ways that Satan will tempt them to disobey. They discussed the blessings of remaining pure. You may want to discuss the guidance in the “For Strength of Youth” manual with your children.

For members over the age of fourteen the Sunday School lesson came from Isaiah 40-49. The lesson focused on the qualities of the Savior. It also talked about how the world tries to compete for our attention. It also discussed the role of the Saints in the last days.

The Young Women discussed the importance of good nutrition and the Word of Wisdom. The Young Men discussed the importance of magnifying their priesthood duties. The Priesthood and Relief Society lessons discussed the importance of following the living prophet.
