Recently a study of 2000 people was done as part of a promo for the movie” Crazy, Stupid Love” and it was discovered that divorced men are more eager to remarry than divorced women. 47% of divorced men were ready to remarry compared with only 20% of divorced women.
Men also seem to jump back into the dating world faster than women with more of them using on line dating services and willing to hire a professional matchmaker to help them find a woman.
They didn’t ask any follow up questions so I don’t know why the participants answered the way they did. Why do you think divorced women are slower to want to remarry?
Personally I think it’s because usually it’s the woman who is raising any children from the marriage. It’s a lot of work to be a single mom and doesn’t leave much time for things like dating. Usually when single mothers don’t have their children they are busy catching up on all the things they are behind on.
Also, I think when you are the custodial parent anyone you are interested in is going to meet your children. After a divorce not many of us are willing to introduce new people to our children because of the possibility that it won’t last and our children will be hurt again.
Most men are not custodial parents so they have more evenings free, they can date as they like without having to worry about a babysitter or introducing someone to their children. For single moms, you may have every other weekend free, not really the best way to nurture a new relationship. The demands on our time are huge, these little people need us.
Then you have to worry about blending families, you have your kids full time, he has his part time, there is a different dynamic. Someone is bound to feel slighted and after putting your kids through a divorce the last thing you want is for them to feel slighted in their own home.
I know I’ve taken my time, now that Hailey is an adult I may be ready to date, I’m not sure about getting married though.
