Do You Know Your Kids’ Favorite Holiday Songs?

I think you can learn a lot about a person by finding out what sort of holiday music he or she likes (if any). This can be a great topic of conversation and comparison for a family too. Do you know what your child’s or children’s favorite holiday music is? Favorite songs or singers? Find out and see what you learn about your child…

Expect kid’s tastes to change over the years—just because they love “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” as a young toddler, doesn’t mean they will still love that song as a teenager. In fact, they may get rather sick of it by middle school and be on to something completely different. A child may even rebel and decide she hates all the “cheesy holiday music” for a while. But, it can really be a fun way to connect and talk with your kids and makes a great dinner conversation topic or conversation starter when you’re looking for something “uncharged” to talk about with your family.

While you’re at it—you can find out a lot by discovering which holiday tunes your children HATE too—we had a very fun and animated discussion at my house a few days ago by sharing our most “disliked” Christmas and holiday songs. They ranged from “The Little Drummer Boy” to “The Twelve Days of Christmas” to anything by the Beach Boys. It was fun to find out where my teenager’s tastes are now and be able to share a little bit about my own personal holiday music tastes as well.

So, ask your kids who they like, what they like and maybe even who they don’t. You might be surprised at what a lively discussion you have and you may even want to sample some of the favorites or try listening to five or six different versions of one song to see which one you all think is the best!
