Do you want to know what God hates? The bible tells us. Here are some things mentioned.
Unjust scales Proverbs 11: 1, 20:23. God doesn’t want to see people cheated. That’s good for us to remember at tax time and in our dealings with others. I think it also applies not just financially but to cheating others in what we give to a relationship.
Boasting and those who do iniquity, lies and deceit, violence and bloodshed, Psalm 5:5-6.
Divorce, Malachi 2:16. Notice, God does not say he hates the divorced person but divorce. Life long marriage of one man to woman was God’s plan for men and women, Genesis 2:23-24, Matthew 19:5-6. Jesus declared divorce came about because of the hardness of men’s hearts Matthew 19:8. He went on to to say that the only reason for divorce was immorality, Matthew 19:9. Though God hates divorce, He is still forgiving just as He is of any sin of which we repent.
‘Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil
A false witness who utters lies
And one who spreads strife among brothers,’ Proverbs 6:17-19.
Idolatry, Deuteronomy 16:22, Jeremiah 44:3-4. It was the sin of idolatry that led to Israel being judged by God and exiled from their land. It is also one that is easy to fall into when we put someone or something else in the place that belongs to God. God will not share his glory with another, Exodus 20:3-6.
God also hated His people’s meaningless sacrifices, festivals and feasts, when their hearts were far from Him and they were living sinful lives, Isaiah, 1:11-15.
Those who love violence, Psalm 11:5. Violence is something we seem to be subjected to more an more in our TV shows, movies and video games. Why? It would appear because the public likes to see it. Would you agree?
Is there something specific in this list that the Holy Spirit has laid His finger on in your life?
