Easter baskets come in so many cute styles, shapes, and colors, that it’s hard to choose one. They range from small to large, cheap to quite pricey, and they are available in the typical pastels as well as many other colors. Some look like baskets while others are shaped like eggs, bunnies, flowers, and now even soccer balls and other fun stuff.
These creative new styles are what inspired me to come up with different ideas for my kids each year. Instead of the typical woven plastic basket, I’d buy the most unique, original containers I could find. I like finding containers that can be used again for a different purpose once Easter is over.
Sometimes I chosse baskets if they are especially cute. For example, instead of looking through the Easter items, I once found pretty wire baskets with tiny jewels on them in the home decor section. Another time I chose small boxes with lids that were the perfect fit for CDs.
Here are some ideas for containers that you can leave for the Easter Bunny to fill but that your kids can also use later for other stuff:
- New plastic sand pail
- Metal pail (like a milk pail) painted bright colors
- Fabric covered, padded box or hat box
- Flower pots (tuck a package of seeds in too, for later planting)
- Large, plastic dump truck (fill the truck bed with goodies)
- Easter themed gift bags (or decorate your own bags)
- A cute purse or tote bag
- Holiday themed plastic serving bowls
- Homemade baskets
These are just a few ideas to get you going. Look around your favorite shops and find unique items that you can use for Easter and other holidays. It’s fun to be inventive. It’s also a great way to help your children learn to look at things in a new light and to use everyday items in creative ways.
