Easy Bathroom Updates

Try a few of these simple techniques that will have your bathroom looking fresh and new. These ideas can be used to help stage a home for sale or just to give it a nice new look. You won’t spend a lot of money, but you will get a lot of impact.

If your bathroom is looking tired, consider using some color to make it come alive. A series of contrasting stripes on the wall will have that bathroom grabbing attention. Choose three shades (two color and one neutral, such as white). Horizontal stripes will make the bathroom appear larger, while vertical stripes will make heighten the ceilings.

The stripes can be quickly laid out with painter’s tape. Consider marking out 12-inch stripes for a bold color statement, with every other strip being 4-inch in the neutral color so it frames or borders the bolder colors.

Do some antiquing to find a great piece of furniture that can double as place to hold towels, bathroom tissue and other supplies. Or purchase a new inexpensive piece and paint it to match your decor.

Hang a round mirror on the wall with a coordinating wide ribbon. Mount the mirror securely, of course, but the illusion is that the mirror is being hung up by the ribbon.

Don’t forget the flowers. Fill a small vase or pretty bathroom wastebasket with flowers, reeds or cattails to brighten up the room.

Invest in new color coordinated towels. Nothing brings down the style in a bathroom like miss-matched, thin, bleached out towels.

Get your bathroom to sparkle. Make sure there is no mold on the shower curtain or soap scum on the shower doors and walls, and that everything is spotless. Use a window cleaner to shine up hardware such as the faucets in the sink and tub.
