Easy Ways to Prepare for a Halloween Party

If the Halloween party is at your home this year, you may be experiencing a mixture of excitement and anxiety. But you can certainly make your home look “bootiful” with a few well-placed “tricks.”

Lighting can go a long way to creating a nice atmosphere for a Halloween party. If you don’t already have them, you might want to consider installing dimmers on your main lights (plus you can use them to save energy all year long). If you don’t want to go with dimmers, you can turn your lights off or switch out the bulbs to ones with a lower wattage, and then use candles for effect. (If you will be having kids at your party, make sure to keep candles out of reach or use battery-powered ones instead.)

For a spooky effect, try using dry ice. Just look in the yellow pages under ice to locate someone who sells it. It will give you a nice fog without too much expense or trouble.

Line your walkway with jack-o-lanterns or luminaries. Both are easy ways to set the mood for guests as they get ready to enter your home.

Make sure you take advantage of your outdoor space. Decorate that as well. Guest may want to mingle outside.

For a haunted house effect, cover all of the furniture with white sheets then sprinkle baby powder all over them. This will raise “dust” clouds whenever anyone sits. If you do this, you might want to warn anyone who is wearing all black, or then again, don’t.

What you serve to your guests can also double as decoration or to help set the mood. There are many wonderful recipes and ideas out there for Halloween theme food, from the cute to the disgusting. Create your dishes to go with the atmosphere you are trying to create.

Have a great party!
