eJuror—A New Way to Bring in Cash!

I remember when the movie Jury Duty came out. I was just a kid, and I told my mom (after watching the previews) that I thought being a juror was an easy way to make money. She laughed and told me that doing jury duty is your civic duty but that you were never going to get rich doing it.

Well, you won’t get rich being an eJuror either, but it is an easy way to bring in some extra cash. eJurorying (look, I just made up a new word!) is when you help lawyers figure out the best way to present their case, before it ever goes to trial. Lawyers used to spend thousands of dollars conducting mock jury trials, but as with almost everything else, the advent of the Internet has really changed this. Lawyers can now present their case online before 50, or more, eJurors at a time, and get their feedback on the case. They will want to know how the evidence stacks up. What about the witnesses–do they seem credible? Any questions that the eJurors have that is not currently being covered by the presentation of the case? Any suggestions of improvements to be made to the arguments? This is the lawyers way of doing a trial run of the…well, of the trial. 😉

So where do you come in at? Easy! You can serve on these eJurys and make some easy spending cash. The pay rates depend on the company, and most companies also vary their rates depending on the difficulty of the case. The rates run anywhere from $5 to $60 per trial. There are several companies that hire eJurors; some to check out would be Online Verdict, eJury, Trial Juries, or Zap Jury. These eJurys are extremely flexible, and pay fairly well, considering what is required of you. My only suggestion is that you only sign up to be an eJuror if you are fond of reading. If reading really isn’t your forte, it may be quite difficult to get through all of the pages of arguments that you have to read before you can respond with your feedback. But this really is a great way to make some extra money while working at home in your spare time, and who wouldn’t love that?
