The end of school is here, and the beautiful summer days are staring us hard in the face. Depending on the type of scrapbooker you are, this could mean more time to scrapbook, but with all the kids off school, it could also mean less.
Personally, I am allowed more time to scrapbook in the summer, because the school year commitments have diminished, and I have loads of free time. For me, it is the last month of school that is the hardest with five kids. There are ceremonies, end of school parties, end of school year field trips, pictures, and special activities, all of which I have to be there, camera in hand. No, I don’t truly have to be there, but I like to. Because then, when summer comes, I have plenty of pictures to scrapbook, and its still fresh on everyones mind.
So with the end of the school year, finally here, I thought I’d give you some tips for moments to capture this summer. If you can, make sure you bring your camera with you everywhere. There are opportunities to take pictures, sometimes when we don’t set out with any in mind.
The pool is an obvious place to have the camera handy. Setting your camera to the “sports” setting, will allow you to freeze water in place and capture motion freezing it in time. What child doesn’t love a good romp through a sprinkler? Mowing the yard with dad? Eating Popsicles or watermelon? These are all wonderful opportunities to capture the moment.
But don’t stop there. Slumber parties, skating, bike rides, craft projects, special game or movie nights. The possibilities are endless.
We are having a big crafting party today, and you can bet I’ll have the camera in hand, while my kids tediously work on their cool projects. We’ve spent tons of time out by the house we are buying, where there is a lake and a beach. I have so many pictures of the kids on the beach and swimming in the lake, I often wonder if I will grow tired of those pictures and stop taking them when we move out there. Probably not.
Don’t forget the camera on camping trips, scouting activities, summer camp, sports, and if you own or plan to own a fire pit, be sure to capture some photos of the kids roasting marshmallows or the adults just sitting around and relaxing after a wonderful summer BBQ.
No matter what your family does in the summer, be sure and take the time to capture it on camera. And then don’t hesitate to treat yourself to a little extra time this summer, on your favorite hobby – scrapbooking, of course.
