Ancestry.com has teamed up with NBC in order to bring you a sweepstakes with an incredibly impressive sounding name. You can enter the Ultimate Family History Journey Sweepstakes every day until May 18, 2012. Someone will win a “trip of a lifetime” to visit their ancestor’s home countries.
The popular genealogy show “Who Do You Think You Are?” is about to start its third season. It is on the NBC network. The series focuses on one celebrity for each show, and takes him or her on a journey through their family tree.
Viewers get to watch as a celebrity learns about the lives of one of his or her ancestors. Often, the details that are revealed are shocking, especially for the celebrity. The show also takes the celebrity on a trip to where his or her ancestor lived, worked, or did something of great significance. This could be a location within the United States, or in any number of other countries.
Ancestry.com is one of the most popular genealogy websites in existence. You might be a member. Or, you might be enjoying one of their fourteen day free trials right now. Ancestry.com is the website that gives away free access to certain parts of their records for free, to non-members, for a few days at a time. It usually coincidences with a holiday, such as Veteran’s Day.
Together, NBC and Ancestry.com have created The Ultimate Family History Journey Sweepstakes. The inspiration came from the compelling stories on the “Who Do You Think You Are?” series. They want you to discover your own, amazing, story.
To enter the sweepstakes, you need to put your email address into the box on their website. You can enter one time, every day, between now and May 18, 2012. It says that people who sign in every single day will improve their chances of winning the sweepstakes.
There will be 20 First Prize Winners. Each one will receive a six month Ancestry.com World Explorer membership. That membership would normally cost $34.95 a month. People who have the World Explorer Membership will get unlimited access to absolutely everything on Ancestry.com.
There will be three Grand Prize Winners. Each one will win a “trip of a lifetime” that is valued at $10,000. It includes a trip to the winner’s homeland, to explore their family roots. You also get round-trip airfare for two, and a hotel room to stay in, for free. Winners receive $2,000 cash.
Each Grand Prize Winner will also get a six month Ancestry.com World Explorer membership, and an Ancestry.com DNA test. The test will determine the winner’s ethnicity and will be used to help the winner make more family connections.
