Exploding Diaper

The strangest thing happened last summer. I bought a box of Pampers Cruisers at Target. I don’t remember how they were advertised, but it was a special Pampers Cruisers just for Target shoppers. Not long after starting to use these diapers, Jessie developed the worst diaper rash ever. The rash was so painful for her. It lasted months. I took her to the pediatrician many times. I put every diaper rash cream on it. I put Lotrimin on it. I put powder on it. Jessie even took antibiotics. I didn’t connect the diapers to the rash until I changed to Fisher Price diapers and SebaMed diaper cream and the rash cleared up.

When Pampers officially released its Cruisers and Swaddlers with Dry Max, I read a lot of reports of serious rashes in many children. I knew then that I got a pre-release batch at Target. Yes, many children exhibit no reaction to Dry Max, but the ones who do are having extreme reactions instead of regular rash.

So when I was low on funds and needed diapers, why did I buy Luvs? Luvs are low-end Pampers. Luvs have Dry Max. Thankfully, Jessie hasn’t rashed as badly as last summer. What did happen is the night she wore her nightgown she was sitting on the couch when Daddy showed me a kind of jelly and asked me if I knew what it was. No. Where did it come from? Jessie’s ankle. More accurately, it came from Jessie’s diaper, which had exploded. The gel was part of the absorbent liner. Her bed was soaked. No wonder diaper was the first thing she said to me when she got up that morning. Too bad she wouldn’t let me change her.

I’d really like to be out of diapers now, but potty training is not progressing.
