I suppose all scrapbook pages are relatively special, otherwise they wouldn’t be created. However, today I witnessed the makings of an extra special scrapbook page with hair as its theme.
Last year my friend’s daughter decided to grow out her hair so that she could eventually donate it to the Locks of Love organization. The public non-profit group provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children, who suffer from long-term illnesses. After nearly 10 months of diligent maintenance and few, if any haircuts, my friend’s daughter lopped off more than a foot of tresses for kids she has never met.
The momentous occasion was captured by about a dozen cameras. The photos will be used to create a couple of commemorative cards and at least six scrapbook layouts. It was a special moment for everyone who witnessed the event, but even more so for my friend’s daughter, who endured a hot and hairy summer, in order to fulfill the promise she made last Christmas.
Interestingly, my friend already has a working concept of how she wants to scrap her daughter’s big day. After hearing about her vision for the layouts, I started to think about all the other hair-themed pages one could create for a scrapbook, such as:
Before and after: My friend took a ton of photos of her daughter’s hair on the day she made the decision to grow out her locks to donate. Then, on the first day of each month she snapped a couple of shots to document the growth. Today, she was snap happy taking shots of her daughter’s transformation from Rapunzel to Rihanna. You could do the same if you planned to create a scrapbook page that showed a significant hair transformation.
Child’s first haircut: I wish I had taken pictures of my daughter’s first haircut, but I was the one cutting her locks and no one was around to work the camera while I butchered her hair. Still, a baby’s first haircut is a major milestone and deserves a place in her scrapbook. In addition to photos, consider keeping a strand of hair to showcase in the layout. You could also embellish the layout with comb- and scissor-shaped stickers or stamps.
