Fall into Winter Travel Deals

left

You may still be working on your vacation plans for Labor Day, but if you want to save big bucks on winter holiday travel, start thinking about booking right now.

Marriott hotels is offering a huge incentive for early birds by featuring a 72-hour sale at six Marriott and Renaissance-brand hotels in New Jersey. The deal includes rooms offered at a discount up to 50% off for stays during the winter holiday season.

Beginning September 4th at noon through September 7th at noon you can score the promo rate by visiting the hotel’s website and clicking on the “Find Deals and Promotions” tab at top of the hotel photo or the “72-Hour Sale” link near the bottom of the home page.

Sample deals include:

*Bridgewater Marriott – Bridgewater – from $79 per night

*Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel – Elizabeth – from $99 per night

*Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott – Newark – from $99 per night

*Park Ridge Marriott – Park Ridge – from $79 per night

*Princeton Marriott at Forrestal – Princeton – from $99 per night

*Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe – Teaneck – from $89 per night

Some of the participating properties are close enough to Manhattan that you could easily use them as the base for holiday shopping trips or to experience December in the Big Apple and take in festive events such as the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Of course, like all deals, this one comes with a few catches. First of all, the sale is first come first serve, as there are only a limited number of rooms available at the reduced rates. Also, tax is extra. Finally, you must pay in advance and once you book, there is no opportunity to get a refund or change the date.

Another hotel chain looking to help cash-strapped travelers is Hilton. The company just launched a shopping program that allows loyal customers to earn reward program points by purchasing every day items.

HHonors members can now earn bonus points in the “Shop-to-Earn Mall,” a network of nearly 1,500 retailers, including Kmart, Macys and Gap. The bonus amounts vary by retailer. For example, you could score four bonus points for every dollar purchased at Kmart, while Toms shoes offers five bonus points for every dollar spent.
