Family History Stories Are A Good Read

As I looked for an interesting topic to write about for today, I came across a wonderful story that was posted on a genealogy blog. The story was about how the blogger’s grandmother and grandfather met – a friend had given a young woman’s address to a young man, they began writing letters to each other, and eventually met and got married. I really enjoyed reading that story, and it reminded me of just how wonderful real life family history stories can be.

Whether the story is a romantic story, a funny story, a story of a brave hero, or some other type of story the fact that it is real and that it happened in your family makes it special. No matter how plain and simple you believe your heritage to be, there are noteworthy people and interesting moments hiding in the branches of your family tree. These slices of your ancestors’ lives are there for you to discover, if you take the time to look.

Often, I find myself wondering about the details of the lives of my ancestors. Unfortunately, I never seem to find much time to go looking for those details, or to pursue as much family history research as I would like to. I am sure that in time, I will discover some of the interesting stories from my family and when I do, I will take care to record and preserve them so that others can find and enjoy them in years to come. Reading the old fashioned love story this evening also made me wonder whether my boys will (once they are older) ever be interested in knowing the story of how my husband and I met each other. If so, we will tell them and let that story become a part of our family history.
