Family Tree University Has New Online Classes

laptop Perhaps you weren’t able to make it to the first ever Story@Home conference, in Salt Lake City, Utah. You might have time to take an online genealogy course, instead. Family Tree University is offering some brand new classes that will be starting soon. Learn more about your favorite hobby, from the comfort of your own home!

Family Tree University is not, technically, an accredited university. It is the name that Family Tree Magazine gives to its learning center. If you are looking for genealogy classes that can add to your college credit, this might not be the place to start. However, if you are simply interested in learning more about genealogy, for personal reasons, then this is a great place to find classes.

Their online genealogy classes can cost anywhere from $39.99 to $199.99. They frequently update their list of classes that they offer. The next batch is about to start on March 19, 2012. Space is still available. Here are just a few of the interesting genealogy classes you could take.

Build a Family Website is taught by Nancy Hendrickson. She is the contributing editor for Family Tree Magazine.

This class will teach you some basic things about the internet that you will need to learn in order to put together a family website. You will need to get a free Blogger or WordPress account before the class starts. This class starts on March 19, 2012, and ends on April 15, 2012.

Cemetery Research 101 will be taught by Midge Frazel. This class is for genealogists who are excited about exploring cemeteries.

Learn how to read tombstones, decipher plot maps, keep your research organized, and more. It is assumed that people who take this class have already done some investigation into their family history, and understand the basic of genealogy prior to attending this class. The class will begin on March 19, 2012, and will end on April 15, 2012.

Digital Photography Essentials is also being taught by Nancy Hendrickson. This class is for genealogists who want to learn some basic digital photography skills.

You will learn photo editing, tricks for photographing old documents, how to create and share slide shows, and more. To take this class, you will need a digital camera, access to free photo editing software, and a scanner. The class will start on March 19, 2012, and will end on April 15, 2012.
