Fashion Trends-—Getting It Right For Your Holiday Party

Are you still searching for just the right outfit to wear to your next holiday party? Yesterday I provided tips on what to wear to informal family gatherings and low-key office parties. But, if you’ve been lucky enough to score an invite to a fancy black-tie event or a cocktail party, a soft turtleneck sweater and khakis are not going to cut it.

That’s where the following holiday fashion trends might come in handy.

Holiday Fashion Trend #1—-Red Dresses. To avoid looking like a version of Mrs. Claus you might want to stick with a sexy fitted number. Regardless, the crimson color will not fail to get noticed in a room full of little black dresses.

Holiday Fashion Trend #2-—Ribbons. According to celebrity fashion experts, ribbons are “the simplest way to dress up just about anything from a camisole to a plain black dress.” I have run across a fair number of ribboned blouses and dresses at Macy’s and The Limited. But, you could also simply string a bright satin ribbon through your pants belt loop to get in on this holiday fashion trend.

Holiday Fashion Trend #3—-Sequins. If you are as conservative as I am you may not want to deck yourself out in sequins from head to toe. But, you can still add sparkle to your holiday outfit by wearing a sequined shrug. Consider pairing one with a black pencil skirt or a pair of fancy slacks.

Holiday Fashion Trend #4—-Velvet. I must admit I did purchase a velvet dress for my daughter to wear this holiday season. (I guess she’ll be one trendy 3-year-old.) Fashion experts say velvet is huge for the holidays and relatively easy to incorporate into your winter wardrobe. Consider wearing a velvet blazer over jeans or go head to toe in an elegant velvet dress.

Holiday Fashion Trend #5—-Jeweled Belts. If you can’t afford to buy a new ensemble this holiday season think accessories. If you have winter’s “it” accessory, fashion experts say you’ll be a hit at your holiday party. The jeweled belt adds sparkle and shine without going overboard. You can add the belt to your jeans, a dress or cinch it over a jacket.
