Favorite Books for Preschoolers

Reading bedtime stories is a wonderful tradition. It is hard to keep up with it in our busy lives. I must admit that I do not read bedtime stories every night to my children. However, a story at the end of the day is best way to drift off to sleep. It is relaxing and a wonderful way to spend some quiet time with your children. Some books are classics and find their way into the hearts of children. Here is a short list of the books that are a favorite for the children in my home. Please share any of your favorites.

Lyle Lyle Crocodile, by Bernard Waber

Lyle the Crocodile books are delightfully written and engaging. The stories focus on friendship and loyalty. Who wouldn’t want a crocodile living with their family?

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Numeroff

All the books in this series by Laura Numeroff are funny for everyone to read. A rare find is a book a parents does not grow tired of reading and children do not grow tired of laughing.

Winnie the Pooh, by A. A. Milne

Winnie the Pooh books are a treasure. Well written, charming, calming, and enjoyable to read as well as hear.

Curious George, by H.A. Rey

This curious little monkey will take your children on hilarious adventures. Our favorite is the one about Curious George making pancakes!

Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown
Help your little ones go to bed by saying good night with the cute little bunny in this book. A favorite book for each of my children during the toddler and preschool years.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle

This is a great book to teach days of the week, nutrition and the life cycle of the butterfly. It has also colorful and full illustrations. For two of my children this book is an all time favorite children’s book.
