Fear and Anxiety

If you have ever dealt with anxiety then you know it can leave you feeling hopeless, frightened, and alone. I’ve battled with anxiety for years. Thankfully with the help of medication and my faith I am doing much better today.

There are some scriptures I’d like to share that bring me comfort. Here is a passage from Psalm 91:5-6 which says, “You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor the destruction that lays waste at noonday.” I love reading the psalms and the writings of David. He has so much passion for God. I can relate to so many of his outpouring cries as well.

I’ve struggled with anxieties of differing degrees. Most of the time I’m anxious it’s productive. I get a lot accomplished and am left feeling good in the end. Other times I can overwhelm myself and have to make time to relax in order to realize that I don’t have control over everything! I have to keep myself from letting the little things get to me. 1 Peter 5:7 reminds me put all my cares on the Lord because He cares for me. Different translations say, “your worries,”, “your anxieties, “or, “your troubles” are to be cast on Christ.

When I feel my whole world is weighing down on me and begin feeling fearful, I have to recognize the fear I’m feeling is not of the Lord. 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” This verse encourages me to get into prayer when I start becoming fearful.

It’s important to realize there is a God that is bigger than any problem we may have. He created the universe and everything that is good. He wants to help us. There is no problem He can’t handle. 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us He will not allow us to be tempted more than we can handle and will provide for us an escape.

I’d like to end here with one more scripture. Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”

The Lord wants to help you in your time of need. Seek Him. I pray you will feel His perfect peace and comfort over you as you do.

All scripture references have been quoted from the NKJV.
