Finding the Funny

In a previous post I shared my plans to create a family-themed scrapbook using the photos and memorabilia I collected during a recent trip to Hawaii to visit my parents and brothers. Since I don’t have as much time to scrapbook as I used to, I printed out some sentimental family-themed quotes to add to the layouts instead of journaling. However, as of yesterday most of the famous sayings I collected were on the serious side. They described more sentimental moments, and whereas my family is very sappy at times, they are also very funny, which is why I wanted to find some humorous quotes to add to the mix.

Fortunately, I was able to carve some time to locate funny sayings that were appropriate for the layout designs I formulated in my head. If you don’t want your scrapbook page designs to read like a sappy Hallmark card, then consider the following funny quotes:

“Families are like fudge – mostly sweet with a few nuts.” Author Unknown

“If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, you may as well make it dance.” George Bernard Shaw

“I looked up my family tree and found out I was the sap.” Rodney Dangerfield

“Don’t hold your parents up to contempt. After all, you are their son, and it is just possible that you may take after them.” Evelyn Waugh

“Family: A social unit where the father is concerned with parking space, the children with outer space, and the mother with closet space.” Evan Esar

You don’t have to outsource the quotes you use in your layouts. Rather, if you have a bunch of comedians in your family, then use some of their material. Young kids are a super source for funny quotes, as are books, magazines and the Internet. If you are pressed for time, I would recommend visiting various sites to get quotes to use in your scrapbook layouts. I often frequent QuoteGarden.com, GreatInspirationalQuote.com, FinestQuotes.com, WisdomQuotes.com, and ThinkExist.com
