Five Easy Decorating Ideas

Do you like simple decorating projects? If something is easy to do, and doesn’t require a lot of time but still looks great, what could be better?

Dress Up Those Window Treatments

Add more layers such as a valance or maybe a window scarf to give your window treatments more flair. Try this simple scarf pattern from Waverly.

Attention to Detail

Add trim and other embellishments to existing accessories. A little beaded trim on the edge of a lampshade, on a picture frame, or along a shelf, some cording on a pillow, or appliqués or lace added to guest towels are simple ways to make tired accessories more interesting. This idea will also work to dress up existing window treatments.

Create Your Own Unique Accessories

Purchase bowls or use existing pieces. Choose a small bowl and a large one that coordinate with each other. Place some clay in the bottom of the larger bowl and set the smaller one inside, securing it to the clay. Square bowls or other shapes will add even more interest. Fill the space between the bowls with water and add grasses or floral fillers in this space. Trim so that the filler is shorter near the front. Fill the smaller bowl with flowers or greenery for a unique arrangement.

Find Simple Ways to Add Color or Texture

Wrap a light sheet of craft wood with wide ribbon, all going in one direction. Staple the ends to the back of the wood, pulling snugly but not too tight. Weave matching or contrasting ribbon through the attached strips in the other direction. Hang as is and use for artwork or use as an interesting bulletin board.

Cover Flaws

Make that old table look great without refinishing it by simply adding a beautiful tablecloth or runner. Cover those worn spots on the arms of your sofa or your favorite chair with placemats made from beautiful fabric.
