Foods to Avoid When Trying to Lose Weight

If you are trying to lose weight, and it seems that almost everyone is these days, then you should definitely avoid certain foods. Men should consume at least one thousand six hundred calories a day or 1600 calories, but it is important that these be productive calories.

To increase the productivity of your calories, there are certain things that you should eat in large quantities and other foods that you should avoid. To lose weight and increase your intake in productive calories, you should eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Still, even with the increased vegetable intake, you should avoid olives and avocados.

You should also eat more beans, though refried beans are not a great help, and you should eat more whole grains. Whole wheat bread, cereals that are high in fiber, granola or oatmeal are great foods to increase your consumption of whole grains.

There are also several foods which you should avoid. Oils, even including margarine, are not conducive to weight loss. Red meats are also not good for those trying to lose weight. You should be wary of salad dressings, as well, because many of them are quite fatty or contain oils. Nuts and seeds should also be avoided, because they have a good amount of oil in them. Full fat dairy products should be avoided and substituted with low fat cheeses, milks and ice creams. Also, when trying to lose weight, you should actively try to avoid all sugars.

Alcohol, because it typically has no nutritional value and a lot of calories, should also be
avoided. Furthermore, any food with more than two grams of fat per serving should not be a part of your diet.

There are also foods that you should consume only in moderation. Low fat dairy products should only enter into your diet in moderate amounts. Egg whites can also be consumed in moderation. Skim milk is better than other milks but should still only be confirmed in moderation. Low fat soups and low fat baked goods are also fine to be ingested in moderation. If you want to use a salad dressing that contains oil, make sure that it is low fat and only use a little bit.

By avoiding certain foods altogether and eating some in moderation, you will certainly help yourself in the long run. It will make your calories more productive, especially if you have a lot of fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your diet. And productive calories, in a healthy amount, almost never show up around your waist.

Of course, occasionally you will want to stray from your diet; you may have a drink after work or go out to a nice restaurant and really want a thick steak and a sugary dessert. The list to avoid is just a guideline if you are trying to lose weight quickly. It is okay to slip up every now and again, especially if you are coupling your diet with exercise and therefore are burning a good number of the calories you take in.
