Fountains and Waterfalls for the Backyard

If you are interested in creating your own private oasis, a place where you can relax and de-stress from the crazy activities of everyday life, why not consider a backyard fountain or waterfall. The soothing sound of the water has some type of magical power that creates an inviting atmosphere while creating the ultimate in serenity.

The nice thing about a backyard fountain or waterfall is that you can build your own. Although you will need to learn a little, they are not difficult to construct and cost much less than buying one. With your fountain or waterfall, you can create an enchanting place for family and friends to enjoy the outdoors. In fact, you will notice during the day that many colorful creatures such as birds, hummingbirds, dragonflies, and butterflies will come to drink, adding to the beauty.

More and more gardeners have discovered the benefits of having a backyard fountain or waterfall, no matter the size or theme of the garden. One of the best things about this type of backyard enhancement is that you can use just about anything, many times, things you already have on hand.

For example, if you have an old piece of fence, barn wood, or even the side of an outdoor shed, you can add a wall fountain. These come in electric and battery-operated models, meaning that if there is no outlet handy, then it is no problem. Additionally, by creating a fountain or waterfall sculpture, these can be placed in between rocks, tucked in a corner, or placed on a deck or patio.

Even if you have an existing birdbath, you can use it to create a water feature. Interestingly, bird love playing and bathing in water and will enjoy the fountain. Many times, by adding a pot or tub enriched with flowers and plants and then completed with a fountain will attract new birds and animals that you might not otherwise see.

You can visit your local hardware, home improvement, or nursery store to purchase a fountain pump and the right length of hose to create your fountain or waterfall. You can keep the design simplistic if you like or add colorful lights, statues, water plants and flowers, and even fish! Why settle for an ordinary backyard when you can add a beautiful fountain or waterfall and have a spectacular place to enjoy.
