Free Apps to Help Parents of Kids With ADHD

iPhone Parents of children who have ADHD are very aware of exactly how stressful this type of parenting can be. Every parent needs a little help sometimes, especially around the holidays (when the kids are out of school). Here are a few free apps that are designed to help out parents of kids who have ADHD.

ADHD Angel is a FREE app that is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (third generation), iPod touch (fourth generation), and iPad. This app can be used by parents of children who have ADHD to keep track of important, health related, details. Or, it can be used by an adult who has ADHD to help themselves.

This app will give you a reminder when medication needs to be taken. You can put in a list of emergency contact details, that people should call if you need them to. The app has a process that can be used to send reports on how your child is feeling, and how you are helping your child to manage certain behaviors. That way, you won’t have to try and remember it all when you see the doctor.

ADHD eBook is a FREE app created by The Toy Lounge. This app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The app is an eBook version of the book “ADHD Strategies for Success”, which was written by Dr. Wilson Grant. He is a pediatrician, child development specialist, and author. He has spent 30 years helping parents of kids who have ADHD.

The app shows you Dr. Grant’s approach to parenting children who have ADHD. It also allows you to learn more about his ADHD Workbook (that is online). The eBook contains answers to many FAQs about ADHD including the what it is, what causes it, and what to expect from medications.

Does your teenager have ADHD? Does that teenager have an iPhone or Android phone? Parents may find it useful to install the following apps onto their teenagers smartphone.

StayOnTask is a FREE app that is compatible with Android devices. The app has a random timer that cannot be predicted. It can help teens with ADHD to get back on task every time the app checks on them. The app will ask your teen if he is doing the work he should be doing, or if he is goofing off. One nice thing about this app is that it is unobtrusive.

Now What? is a FREE app that can be used on iPhone and iPad. The app provides simple templates that can be used to tell your teenager what will happen next in the day, as well as what she needs to be doing in regards to that event. You can create templates that fit with all of her classes, and save them so they can be used daily.

FocusUp is a FREE app that is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. It is designed to help people to train their brains to focus. It looks like a game, where a bunch of tiles appear on the screen. Each one has a random number on it. The player will be asked to preform a task, such as to tap the numbers in ascending order, as fast as he can. This can provide a quick break for your teen that has ADHD, (and can improve his ability to focus at the same time).
