Freedom of Choice

With all the chaos, hunger, disease and destruction in the world, if God loves His children so much, why doesn’t He spare them? Why would a loving God allow anyone to suffer?

To be honest with you, I really don’t know for sure. I believe as much as we are absorbed in this world, it is only a sliver of our “life”. Perhaps God is more concerned with where our hearts are during times of trial and tragedy than the pain we endure? I know before Adam and Eve committed the first sin, they’d been warned by God. The choices we and others make can have lasting consequences. God knew this and instructed people not to sin.

I believe God also allows bad things to happen because during times of trials, our hearts become refined and our faith tested. Either one turns from God or to Him. I do not believe He makes bad things happen. The devil is destructive enough, but God gives us a way out.

  • 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you might be able to bear it.”

God could have made us to be robots but He didn’t. Would you rather have your own children love you because they want to or because they were forced to? I believe God wants His children to love Him because of who He is, not because we were forced to. We don’t have to choose eternity in heaven dwelling with God; we can decide to go our own way without His protection and covering. The thing about rejecting God is there’s an enemy called Satan who doesn’t have the grace and mercy God does who’ll gladly snatch you up when you don’t realize you’ve fallen prey to him.

  • John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
  • Joshua 24:15, “…Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

There is an eternity to live after life here on earth. You can choose to spend it with God or not.
