Front Door Décor: Valentine’s Welcome

Dressing up your front door is one of the simplest ways to create a cheerful entrance. At the same time that you greet guests, you can also greet a particular season, holiday, or special occasion.

The really cool part is that you can re-use many decorative items in different ways for different occasions. For example, a grapevine wreath can easily be decked out for any occasion with picks, flowers, ribbons, bows, or other festive items. Use wire to attach your decorative pieces instead of hot glue, so you can remove them easily when you’re ready to replace them with decorations for some other event.

To make a really simple decoration for your front door, pick up a bunch of eucalyptus. For Valentine’s Day, choose red. Bind it together with wire, turn it upside down, and trim any wild ends if desired. Hang it up “as is” or tie a large bow made of wide, wired ribbon at the top before hanging.

You can find themed ribbon at most craft stores or the craft section of your favorite store, to make bow at the top. Add ribbon or a picture hanger to the back to hang it on your door.

Remove hearts, flowers, or Valentine’s Day ribbon when you want to use it again. You can also pick up some eucalyptus in other colors to make simple door sprays for other occasions.

For a similar look on a budget, collect twigs from your yard, clean them, and bunch them together. Bind them, turn the bunch upside down, and proceed as directed above. You can also spray paint twigs if you want festive, holiday colors. Make your own decorative picks with cardboard hearts covered in glitter and attached with floral wire. Make bows from inexpensive themed fabric remnants instead of pricier ribbon.
