Frugal Beauty Care for Your Hair

Here are some great tips for taking care of your hair the frugal way. Use products around your home to add shine, volume, and moisture with little cost.

* Mix a small jar of mayonnaise with 1/2 of a mashed avocado to make a deep conditioning cream. Apply to hair, from root to tip. Cover your hair with plastic wrap or shower cap. Leave cream on hair for 20 minutes and rinse out in the shower.

* Make your own dandruff remedy by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water. Apply the liquid directly to the scalp before shampooing. Use at least twice a week to keep flakes away.

* For shiny hair: Mash 8-10 strawberries, then add enough mayonnaise to form a cream (about a tablespoon). Mash into damp hair. Rinse. Follow with shampoo and conditioner. The strawberries and mayo are great for conditioning and adding shine to your hair.

* For extra volume: Secure wet hair into a loose ponytail on the top of your head. Blow dry roots until dry. Remove elastic and continue drying hair as normal. This will give your roots volume without the cost of expensive products.

* For soft and conditioned hair: Mix one egg white and 1 cup skim milk. Beat until foamy throughout. Rub mixture into the scalp and leave for approximately five minutes. Rinse out with water. Do this twice a week to improve the moisture of your hair.

* Make your own hot oil treatment simply using canola oil. Measure 1/4 cup canola oil into a small glass cup. Put inside a bowl of hot water for about a minute, or until oil is warm. Massage into wet hair. Leave 1-5 minutes, then wash out. Follow with shampoo and conditioner.

* To help with oily buildup, massage finely grated carrots into wet hair. Leave for 15 minutes, then rinse.
