Frugal Bunny Costume

Want a great idea for Easter? Why not make up a frugal bunny costume with no sewing involved at all?

One of the fun things about frugality is being creative about reusing items that you already have or items that you can obtain cheaply. This next idea is a great one.

Using a large stuffed bunny toy, this reader turned it into a bunny costume for Easter. She purchased the bunny at a yard sale. Then she took it outside and opened it up, making a large slit in the front, and then emptying the stuffing and saving it for another use. She then cut off the hand and feet and cut out the face. Using a hot glue gun, she glued long strips of velcro on either side of the opening so the costume would close. You could also sew in a zipper or buttons, if that is a better solution for you.

The bunny costume cost her less than a dollar. She bought the bunny for 25 cents and used some velcro that she already had. Isn’t that a creative idea?

She said that the bunny is sure to be a big hit at her town’s Easter parade and Easter Egg hunt that takes place this coming weekend. I bet her daughter will look so cute.

One of the things that I really like about this idea is that it can be adapted and used for Halloween costume or for last minute costumes for school plays. After all, there are so many “animal” that seem to appear in elementary school plays and assemblies, aren’t there?

So, take a look around your house, local thrift stores, church sales and garage sales. If you “gut” the stuffed toys before you store them, they won’t take up much space, and you’ll have a whole menagerie to chose from the next time you need a kids costume. Try adapting this idea for an infant costume as well.
