Frugal Ideas for Unwanted Gifts (2)

If you have some gifts that just weren’t a perfect fit, don’t worry. You can use these tips to take advantage of having those gifts, even if they weren’t exactly what you wanted. Don’t just throw those gifts in a drawer, closet or basement, never to be seen again. Use them frugally!

This is the second part of the earlier article: Frugal Ideas for Unwanted Gifts (1). In that article, we talked about two ideas for those unwanted gifts, now we’ll follow up with three more ideas: Exchange, Sell and Donate. Here we go.

Exchange

Having an exchange is a fun way to use up those unwanted gifts. Get a friend or two together for light snacks and trade your booty. This is a great idea to do at work, since you co-workers may not know the friends and family originally giving the gifts. You may find that someone else is absolutely thrilled to get that lifelike stuffed kitten and all too happy to get rid of one more red sweater.

Sell

Ebay is full of items that were originally gifts, so don’t feel too badly if you choose to go this route. You could use the proceeds to get yourself something that you really want. Craigslist.org is another great place to sell your unwanted gifts. Of course, there is also the traditional yard or garage sale.

Donate

This is one of my favorite ways to give unwanted gifts a new life. By donating your unwanted gifts, you are blessing someone else with something that they may want or need. Sure you don’t need that waffle maker, but perhaps there is a mom out there who makes homemade breakfast to help feed her family. She would be thrilled with the find. Donate items directly to charities and thrift shops, or try freecycle.org.
