In the previous article I gave several suggestions for front door decorations. It’s the first thing your guests see when they approach your home, so it’s important to decorate with some class and style. It’s hard to decorate when you are on a tight budget or are trying to be more frugal, but if you try some of these tips, you should have no problem and nobody will know you hardly spent a cent.
* The traditional wreath is one of my favorite decorations. It’s a frugal way to add a very pretty decoration. You can purchase an already made wreath, but making it yourself is much more fun. Use berries, pine cones, fake poinsettias or other seasonal items. You can add a few cinnamon sticks to the wreath to add some scent as the door swings open a little will be released and the smell is wonderful.
* If you decide on a wreath, you don’t have to actually decorate it for the season. You could just use a seasonal ribbon to show the festivity, and add items of personal interest. For instance, you can purchase child sized versions of kitchen cooking items for the person who loves cooking. Tie red ribbons around the handles and attach to the wreath. Add some Christmas bows throughout. If you love teddy bears, attach miniature bears to the wreath and again use ribbons to make it more festive. Find your special interest and go to town.
* Purchase two medium or large gold bells of any shape. You can often find these at the dollar store at holiday time. Tie a red ribbon bow through both of them and hang them on the door.
* No matter what you hang on your front door, there is one more fun and creative idea that you can try. A few years ago I purchased battery operated Christmas lights. They are clear and I think there are about 40 lights on the strand. It requires two AA batteries and I wind the clear lights around the wreath I hang on my front door. The clear lights give off a beautiful glow and I just love how it looks. I usually purchase a large pack of batteries (using a coupon of course) at the start of the season, and have several left over at the end. Mine has an on/off switch and I just shut it off before I go to bed at night.
