Fun for Grown-Ups at Disney: The Spas

When I last talked about fun things for adults to do alone at Disney, I highlighted a fast-paced thrill ride. Today I’m going to talk about a service Disney features that is perfect for winding down after racing around the tracks at the Richard Petty Experience: spas.

Several of the hotels at Disney Parks have spas, but Disney World in particular boasts a few larger ones worthy of note: the Grand Floridian, Saratoga Springs, and Mandara. These three offer an extra level of pampering ideal for a vacation all about taking time to relax.

The Balinese-themed Mandara spa can actually be found at both Disney World and Disneyland, housed in the Dolphin Resort Hotel in the former and the Grand Californian Hotel in the latter. Everything from the physical decorations of the spa to some of its services reflects its Balinese theme.

With offerings as diverse as tea ceremonies, nail salons, fitness centers, and nearly 10 treatment rooms, the Mandara spa is an ideal relaxation spot. The Mandara at Disney World even has some offerings for teenagers.

The Grand Floridian also has some opportunities for children, including watercraft rentals, beaches, sports, and more. But as for what we’re really interested in at the Floridian: the spa treatments. The Floridian offers body therapies, massages, soaks, skin refinement, full-body relaxation treatments, and more.

Because the spa is located in one of Disney World’s largest resorts, the Floridian spa affords its guests close proximity to several other luxuries, including the Victoria & Albert retreat restaurant, tea rooms, beaches, golf, and an arcade.

Saratoga Springs draws inspiration from its aquatic theme, featuring special hydro-massage therapies and whirlpools in its locker rooms, along with its more normal spa offerings. It also has a beauty boutique, hand and foot treatments, and a couple’s relaxation package.

The overseas parks also provide spa packages. The spa at the Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel on the Disney resort features bedrock and germanium bathing chairs and a mist sauna. Hong Kong Disneyland’s Victorian Spa provides three doubles treatment rooms and ten singles, along with a whirlpool, steam room, and sauna. The Dream Castle Spa at Disneyland Paris lives up to the promise in its name with Thai and Californian massages, steam baths, and a private Jacuzzi and fitness room.

In case you can’t make a complete lone or couples getaway for some Disney pampering, most of the spas also provide child care for ages 4-12. This being Disney, that doesn’t mean just a typical babysitter watching over the kids in a play room. At the Grand Floridian, for example, children do arts and crafts, watch Disney movies, and have dinner and snacks at the Mouseketeer Club.

Disney’s known for extravagance, so you can bet that a session, day, or vacation spent at a Disney spa will leave you floating in luxury. Each of the Disney spas has a list of offerings that stretches far beyond what I can recount here, so be sure to check out all the details on your spa of choice before making a reservation.
