Fun Holiday Things to Do with Gift Wrap

(And they have nothing to do with wrapping.)

With all of the great deals on gift wrap, from dollar store rolls (I’ve found some great quality stuff there) to last year’s 90 percent off, I thought I would brainstorm a bit on other uses for the stuff. After all, it is festive, and this inexpensive resource can take the place of other things, thus saving money.
My ideas are below. Please share some of yours!

Decorations

Last night my neighbor showed us a very fun way to decorate for the holidays. This would not only work for Christmas but for any of the winter holidays. She cut small strips of shiny blue and shiny silver gift wrap that had frosted snowflakes printed on both rolls. Then she alternated the strips by color, forming a paper chain, The effect was just beautiful, and it looked very sophisticated but easy enough for kids to do.

Christmas Cards

If your gift wrap has winter scenes, Santa or other characters, you can cut these images out to make home made Christmas cards. Some paper also includes statements, such as “Merry Christmas,” that you can incorporate into your cards.

Christmas Decoupage

While you are cutting out all of those wonderful images from your gift wrap, why not consider cutting a few more and using the images to decorate small boxes, ornaments, etc. These crafts can be given as gifts or kept in the family for years to come.

And finally…

One Tip for Inexpensive Gift Wrap

Avoid licensed characters on gift wrap as much as possible, such as Disney, While you may find that the rolls are priced the same as those with more generic designs, take a look at the actual square footage. You’ll get less gift wrap, making these rolls more expensive in the long run.
