Are you hosting Easter this year? If so, then you have a busy week ahead of you. There are eggs to color, a house to decorate, baskets to fill, a menu to plan and activities to prepare. The holiday requires quite a bit of preparation, but the workload can be minimized if you plan carefully.
If you are still looking for ways to get the entire family involved in Easter fun, consider the following ideas:
EASTER EGG DECORATING CONTEST
Start a family tradition by hosting an Easter egg decorating contest. Divide participants according to age and create enough categories so everyone gets a chance to win. Example categories include: funniest egg, most original egg, scariest egg, prettiest egg, wackiest egg or most colorful egg. The weirder the categories, the more fun you will have decorating and judging.
Once the eggs are complete, have each contestant place his or her entries on a large table near a card that indicates the category name. Then, get older guests (like grandma and grandpa) to judge the egg-cellent creations. If the grandparents can’t make up their minds, then invite the neighbors over to join in the fun and have them serve as judges.
EASTER BASKET SCRAMBLE
Most families have their own traditions when it comes to finding Easter baskets on Sunday morning. Some use the hide-and-seek method, whereby excited kids scour the house trying to locate the spot where the Easter Bunny left their basket. Meanwhile, other families use an easier approach by having the Easter Bunny leave the loot near the front door.
Another fun way to keep the kids guessing on Easter Sunday is to buy some narrow inexpensive ribbon from a local craft store (roughly 15 to 25 yards per person depending on how challenging you want to make it). Choose a different color for each child. Once the kids are in bed, tie a ribbon to each of the hidden Easter baskets and weave the ribbons in and out of the furniture and the other ribbons until you can’t see where they began. Finally, bring the ends to a central location (the kitchen table or living room couch) and let the fun begin. Your kids will have to untangle the maze of ribbons to find their basket and before you know it the entire family will be rolling in ribbons and laughter.
