African Roots Podcast released episode number 169 on June 29, 2012. In this episode, host Angela Walton-Raji talks about the Black Gotham Digital Archives, and a new blog for Creole Genealogy. She also mentions an article about a new monument honoring US Colored Troops, a special event honoring black soldiers that is coming up, and the new Delmarva African American Historical & Genealogical Society. Irish Roots Cafe released a new episode on June 26, 2012. This episode is called “Family Origins MacCarthy, Donahue, O’Brien… Irish Genealogy”. In this episode, you will hear more of the book “Irish Family Origins, Part 1”. It focuses on several of the Irish families who lived in County Cork, Ireland.
NPR has an episode of “All Things Considered” that was released on July 1, 2012. This episode is called “The Complex ‘Tapestry’ of Michelle Obama’s Ancestry”. This episode features author Rachel Swarns, who wrote the book “American Tapestry: The Story of the Black, White, and Multiracial Ancestors of Michelle Obama”.
She talks about some of what she learned about Michelle Obama’s family tree, what it was like to do the genealogy research, and what it was like to meet some of Michelle Obama’s distant living relatives.
NPR released an episode of “Weekend Edition Saturday” on June 30, 2012. This episode is called “Metal Detector Hobbyists Find Rare Heap of Celtic Coins”. The episode features Richard Miles and Reg Mead, who found the world’s largest stash of Celtic coins in the fields of Jersey, England, where they live. Host Scott Simon asks them questions about this historical find.
