Genealogy Resources On Twitter

Twitter bird Twitter is a social networking tool that is used by people all across the world. Headlines were made when people in Iran tweeted about the protests that were going on in response to an election. Twitter has become more than just the website people visit to tell the world what they ate for lunch. It is a resource.

Businesses use Twitter to get their name out there. Twitter has links to websites that would be helpful for people who are working on the genealogy of their family.

Here are just a few of the genealogy websites that you can follow on Twitter:

@Heirlines is the Twitter name for the Pro Genealogy company. It is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their website has instruction on how to properly document genealogy events. It also has information from documents, including the complete court records of Virginia county from the 17th century.

@genealogybox is the twitter name for the Geneabloggers website. They tweet links to information about where to find genealogy conferences, articles commenting on television programs that involve genealogy, and more. You can participate in “Treasure Chest Thursday”, and link your blog post about a family treasure or heirloom to the Geneabloggers website.

@genealogy_book tweets the names of all newly published genealogy book titles. Follow them to find out about the title, author, and amazon link to some helpful resources you have not already discovered.

@MyGenealogy is the twitter name for the website Genealogy JumpStart. This website is part blog, and part documents. Find birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, divorce records and more. Read the blog for information about genealogy workshops, additional resources that can be found on the internet, and reviews of genealogy related software. Some of these links are tweeted.

@genealogygifts tweets links to products that would make great gifts for fellow genealogists. There are hats, shirts, mouse pads, and coffee mugs that have amusing genealogy related sayings and images printed on them. Enjoy a humorous look at genealogy!

@GenealogyDNA is the twitter name for GenealogyDNA.com. Follow them on twitter to get links to information about testing DNA for genealogy purposes.

These are just a few of the genealogy resources on Twitter. I have noticed that some Twitter accounts that use the word “genealogy” have nothing to do with actual genealogy. Some refer to clothing, and some are just using the word for their own reasons. It helps to do a little checking before you follow someone on Twitter, in order to weed out the useful resources from the irrelevant links.
