General Conference: “A Tabernacle in the Wilderness”

In his talk “A Tabernacle in the Wilderness” President Gordon B. Hinckley speaks about the Tabernacle. He speaks briefly of the changes that were made to make the structure safer. This included new exit doors, and reinforcing the stone pillars throughout the building. In addition the roof was strengthened and redone.

President Hinckley points out that renovations have taken place over the years as well, as the building was soon outgrown. He goes on to speak of the sacrifices that were made in order to build the tabernacle. He points out the purposes that the building has been used for.

President Hinckley then offers a prayer to rededicate the building. In the prayer he gives thanks for Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. He also gives thanks for all the pioneers that were willing to sacrifice to have the gospel in their lives. He asks that the church may continue to grow and that the saints may be blessed in their labors.

It was nice to watch the rededication of the Tabernacle. The spirit was very strong. You should take the time to read the words and the prayer that President Hinckley gave. It is wonderful to be able to learn church history. It is important to realize that it is every member’s history regardless of how long you have been a member.
