Get Energy with Denise Austin

Get Energy! Empower Your Body, Love Your Life

By: Denise Austin

Book rating: 4.5 out of 5 carrots!

Denise Austin is in a word amazing. My first introduction to her was when I was a kid. My mother used to have some of her workout videos. I was struck by Denise Austin’s constant energy and smile. Once I got older I purchased many of her workout routines for myself. On good days she was a source of energy and motivation. On bad days she annoyed me. That was not her fault. She could not predict that her contagious smile and nonstop motivational attitude could make me want to throw something at the TV.

One thing I have always loved about Denise Austin is her commitment to health. She is not into fad diets or quick fixes. Her theme has always been to live a healthy life in a realistic and truthful manner. Her workout videos are challenging yet doable and encouraging. Being a mom she is also concerned with childhood obesity and has worked on videos and projects concerning this area. Another thing about Denise Austin that I find amazing: her age! She is 52 years old and looks amazing! Yes, I just used the word amazing three times in one article.

I jumped at the chance to review Get Energy! Empower Your Body, Love Your Life. I’ll be honest; I have never read a book by Denise Austin. What struck me about this book was the theme. It was not about weight loss. It was about energy. Honestly one more book on weight loss would not thrill me. Weight loss is no secret, you simply burn more calories than you consume. Healthy weight loss is simply losing weight at the benefit of your health and not the detriment. This idea has been rehashed more than the Freddie Kruger movies. I seek energy, health, and well being. Our goal should be to be healthy not thin. Thin does not equal healthy or energetic. Now comes in the new book by Denise Austin. This book focuses on how to improve your life by how to increase your energy level.

What makes this book so good? I’m a kid and need interactive activities to keep me interested and to effect change. This book implements self evaluation tools to do just that. You will be involved in your plan. You will be guided step by step in an individualized way as least as individual as a book can get. The book is not spouting off on the subject of energy and what foods or exercises will increase your energy. The book encourages, explains, guides, and directs you into living a more energetic life. She does include exercises and food choices in the plan to gain more energy. You will feel as if she is right there counseling you on how to incorporate changes necessary. Portions of the book is about snacks and food which most already know about or advice that has been given in the past. However, it never feels rehashed as much as reviewed. She uses her knowledge to help you create a plan that is realistic and will prove to have results.
