Today, to my complete surprise, a giant doorknocker was placed on the door of my home. It was absolutely huge! This one came from Kohl’s, and included a nice coupon that I am seriously thinking about using. Did you get one of these on your door, too?
A “doorknocker” is a piece of advertisement that has a hole cut into it, so it can be easily attached to the doorknob of people’s houses. I’ve always heard them called by this name because after the person places the ad on your door, he knocks on your door, and walks away. Most of the time, doorknockers come from local fast food places, and pizza places seem to be especially interested in using this form of advertisement. In general, a doorknocker has the following components: it is something that can easily be fit over a doorknob; it describes a sale that is going on, right now, at whatever store the doorknocker came from; it contains a coupon of some kind for you to use, today. Doorknocker advertisements are more attention getting than the advertisements that you find in your mailbox, because you cannot help but notice them, as soon as you use your front door.
The doorknocker from Kohl’s is the largest one I have ever seen. It is 16 inches tall, and five inches wide, before you open it, (then it becomes ten inches wide). This monster is in full color, all the way through. Clearly, Kohl’s is desperate for me to notice it’s current sale! I’ve never in my life seen a doorknocker advertisement that was this big!
It has been placed on my door so I will be reminded that Kohl’s has a variety of great things that I can buy as gifts for my family and friends. There is a huge photo of a delighted looking woman, holding a wrapped gift. Inside, are some photos of things Kohl’s sells, that perhaps I might want to buy. The most interesting part of this doorknocker is the coupon that is included. Take $10.00 off any purchase of $20.00 or more. It is good on everything in the store (but, obviously, can’t be used on their website). This coupon can be used only one time, and is good from Friday, December 3, 2010, through Friday, December 24, 2010. This coupon could be hanging on your door, right now!
