Global Warming: Personal Conservation

Do you believe in Global Warming? Clearly, there is something to this phenemenon, but do you believe that man is the direct cause and that there is really something we can do to limit the effects? It’s a controversial issue to be sure, and various aspects are much contested, especially when it comes to cause and effect. Still, no matter what you believe in regard to Global Warming, I think we can all agree that avoiding waste -or engaging in conservation- is a good thing.

So, are there specific measures you take in your household to help with the conservation effort? Do you try to prevent the waste of electricity, heating fuel, and gasoline? These are just a few areas in which we can all try a little harder.

We can try to combine trips and get as much done as possible in one outing to avoid using more gallons of gas than necessary. We can turn off lights and appliances when not in use. We can grab a sweater instead of automatically turning up the heat. We can wash more loads of laundry in cold water. These are all simple, pretty painless ways to save energy and lessen emissions.

These efforts not only help the conservation effort, but they also help lower household bills as well, which is always a good thing. Not only that, but they also help teach our children stewardship and responsibility. While we have politicians and celebrities out there crying about manmade Global Warming, while simultaneously driving gas guzzling vehicles or zipping around in private jets, we shouldn’t let that stop us from doing what we can to protect our planet.

I think we can all agree that doing our part as individuals, and being a good example for our families and others, are good things. What will you do today to conserve energy?
